Kathleen Umrein-Johnson
Kathleen Umrein-Johnson has over 35 years of experience practicing in California and currently specializes in the defense of environmental, personal injury, construction defect and professional liability cases. She joined Vasquez Estrada & Conway LLP in 2009. Ms. Umrein-Johnson has extensive experience as a trial and appellate lawyer in a wide-range of civil matters.
Kathleen graduated from the University of Oregon's Honors College with a B.A. in Political Science awarded "with distinction." She graduated from the University of Chicago Law School where she was awarded the Hinton Moot Court Award for "Best Written Brief."
Ms. Umrein-Johnson began her career as a trial attorney at the San Francisco District Attorneys Office, where she practiced almost ten years, and was awarded a "Champion of the People" award upon her departure. Ms. Umrein-Johnson has exclusively focused on insurance defense litigation since her transition from criminal to civil law.
She was an adjunct professor at Hastings Law School where she taught "Evidence Advocacy", a trial practice seminar, for twelve consecutive semesters. Ms. Umrein-Johnson also taught evidence, legal writing and seminars on the use of expert witnesses. Kathleen is a member of the California Bar and the bars of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has resided in Marin County over 30 years and is active in the local equestrian community.
