Mike has taken over 40 jury trials to verdict, in addition to handling numerous bench trials and arbitrations.  Along with asbestos defense and coverage litigation, Mike has also litigated personal injury suits, insurance broker and real estate broker professional liability suits, large and small business disputes, and defended clients in white-collar criminal matters.  Significant cases litigated by Mike include the reversal of an adverse trial judgment in a directors & officers coverage case (Abifadel v. CIGNA Ins. Co. (1992) 8 Cal.App.4th 145), a defense judgment in a $1.2 Million CUMIS fee arbitration arising out of an advertising injury coverage dispute, and the successful defense of an established San Francisco law firm in successive state felony prosecutions arising from the alleged abandonment of bio-hazardous waste (People v. In-Fer-Gene, et al./People v. Sullivan, Roche & Johnson, et al.).

Mike has published articles in the areas of insurance coverage and civil practice. These include a review of the law on an insured’s potential liability for failure to settle within the SIR/captive insurance layer (“Non-Settling Insured’s Liability For Excess Judgments?,” Declarations, Spring 1996) and a chapter on the use of discovery materials during trial (California Civil Procedure During Trial 2nd, CEB/University of California Press, 1995 [co-author]).  Mike was named in the North Bay Business Journal’s list of “Who’s Who in Law” for 2006 and 2008.  Mike has been named a Northern California “Super Lawyer” for 2008, 2009 and 2011 by Super Lawyers/San Francisco Magazine.
